HP Dead Pixel Policy — Monitors & Laptops

Policies change. The information below reflects HP's general approach as of 2026. Terms vary by region, product, and are updated without notice. Always verify current policy at hp.com or by calling HP Support before purchasing or filing a warranty claim.

HP dead pixel policy — overview

HP monitors and laptop displays follow ISO 13406-2 Class II — referred to in HP documentation as the ISO Pixel Fault Class standard. Under this framework, a small number of pixel defects is considered within manufacturing tolerance. HP does not offer a zero dead pixel guarantee on any consumer or business display line.

A single isolated dead or stuck pixel on an HP monitor, HP Victus, HP Spectre, or HP EliteBook does not typically meet the threshold for a warranty replacement. Multiple defects, a visible cluster, or a pixel line are more likely to qualify.

What ISO Class II means for your HP display

ISO 13406-2 Class II permits up to 2 fully dead pixels, 2 fully lit (white) pixels, and up to 5 partial sub-pixel defects per million pixels. On a typical 27-inch 1440p HP monitor (~3.7 million pixels), that is roughly 7 permitted defects. Most users will never see a defect — these are upper limits, not expected occurrences. If you have defects beyond these numbers, HP is obligated to replace the display.

How to file an HP dead pixel warranty claim

  1. 1Find your HP product serial number (label on the back of the monitor or laptop base) or HP product number.
  2. 2Photograph the defect: white background for dead (dark) pixels, black background for stuck (bright) pixels.
  3. 3Run the test below and screenshot the result for additional documentation.
  4. 4Go to hp.com/support, enter your serial number, and open a warranty claim with your photos attached.
  5. 5If within the retailer return window (typically 14–30 days), contact the retailer — faster than HP direct.
